Early in the morning, our local guide will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the port. We start our boat excursion on Lake Titicaca visiting the floating island of Uros, a small community that has lived in these reed islands of Totora for decades. Centuries ago, the small indigenous tribe of the Uros conceived the islands as a way to isolate and protect themselves from rival tribes, the Collas and the Incas.

The people of the Uros harvested the reeds of Totora in the shallow waters of the lake, woven those together majestically and thus built floating island platforms with reed houses and canoes, thus creating their own little world. After strolling through the floating islands, we continue our trip to the island of Taquile - Puno (2 hours approx.) A traditional Quechua community, full of ancient agricultural terraces and some ruins that date back to the Pre-Inca period. The Taquile population was relatively isolated from the mainland until the 1950s, and the notion of community and family is still very strong among them.

You will have free time to explore the top of the island on your own and then meet the group for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we will descend to the port to take our boat back to Puno.
